A friendly reminder to everyone who loves to enjoy Happy Valley, that it too is governed by City bylaws that state dogs must be on leash at all times. There are many farm animals in the Valley including chickens, pigs, horses, sheep and goats. Allowing off leash dogs to run into these pastures violates these animals' safe space and can cause much stress and even harm to these animals. Please respect that Happy Valley is a farming area and keep your dogs on leash! Thank you!
Yesterday we had a dog enter our pig pasture with ten week old piglets. Our fence was damaged and our piglets scared and stressed. Six babies got out, ended up on the other side of the Valley. It took us 4 hours to find five and the sixth baby was alone for much of the day.
Happy to report the sixth piglet was safely secured at 8pm after a scary and sad day of wondering if we would find this lost piggo. So happy to have good news to share!
Thank you SO much to all of the kind messages and support we received yesterday. Many of you came to help look and so many of you reported in as you biked or walked the trail system. We appreciate you so much!
Pigs had a restful night in a cuddle puddle and are happy to be home.
